St. Paul Saints News Release

ROSEMOUNT, IL - The St. Paul Saints scored the first two runs of the game. That's where the good feelings began and ended. The Saints gave up a season tying high 15 runs and six home runs and were drubbed by the Chicago Dogs 15-2 on Saturday night at Impact Field. The loss drops the Saints to 44-28 on the season.

In the top of the first inning the Saints got to former Major Leaguer D.J. Snelten when Dan Motl led off the game with an infield single to short. Michael Lang reached on a sacrifice bunt and an error when Snelten dropped the ball as he went to pick it up on the first base side. Brady Shoemaker flew out to center that sent Motl to third. After Lang stole second, Josh Allen singled off the glove of a diving shortstop Jordan Dean that scored both Motl and Lang giving the Saints a 2-0 lead. After that it was all Dogs.

In the bottom of the first the leadoff hitter, David Olmedo-Barrera, drilled a solo homer to right, his seventh of the season, cutting the Saints lead to 2-1.

The Dogs took the lead for good in the third when Olmedo-Barrera was hit by a pitch and Edwin Arroyo walked. With one out Victor Roache drilled his second three-run homer in as many days, first of the night and 17th of the season, giving the Dogs a 4-2 lead.

In the fourth with two outs Olmedo-Barrera doubled and Arroyo singled him home making it 5-2. Keon Barnum then crushed a two-run homer to right, his 21st of the season, increasing the lead to 7-2.

The Dogs hit two more two-run homers in the sixth with Roache hitting his second of the night and 18th of the season making it 9-2. After a Kelly Dugan single, Dean crushed a two-run shot to left giving the Dogs an 11-2 lead.

With the Saints down 13-2 the Dogs hit their sixth home run of the night as Trey Vavra hit a two-run blast in the eighth, his fifth of the season.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the three game series on Sunday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP John Kilichowski (0-0, 0.00) to the mound against Dogs LHP Jake Dahlberg (5-5, 5.53). The game can be heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
