AirHogs Walk off Explorers 2-1

August 3, 2019 - American Association (AA)
Texas AirHogs News Release

The AirHogs have been one of the toughest teams in the league at home the last two weeks, and they showed it again tonight, winning a thrilling pitchers duel 2-1.

Travis Ballew found something in a bullpen session yesterday that translated onto the mound today. Ballew allowed just one run across 6 brilliant innings of work. The biggest thing Ballew did today was limit the walks, holding Sioux City to just one free pass. Ballew retired the final 11 batters he faced.

The AirHog offense got started was having trouble getting giong against Pete Tago for the second time in less than a week. They mustered just one run through eight innings, but luckily Ballew was just as good if not better tonight.

The AirHogs entered the bottom of the ninth inning tied 1-1. Chen Junpeng lead off the inning with a sharp single into centerfield. Zhu Jiarui ran for Junpeng and moved into second on a high chop off the batt of Luo Jinjun. Then with one out and the game on the line, Yang Jin singled into center, scoring Zhu and sending the Grand Prairie crowd home happy!

The AirHogs have now won 8 of their last 9 at home; the one loss coming on a make up game that was finished Wednesday that began in July. The Hogs look to continue their streak as they prepare for game 2 of a 3 game set against Sioux City. Zhang Tao will take the mound for the AirHogs tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.
