Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - A pitching duel went the way of the Goldeyes tonight as Winnipeg snuck past the RedHawks for a 3-1 win Friday night in front of 4,097 fans at Newman Outdoor Field. Bret Helton and Mitchell Lambson each pitched well, but Lambson shut down the usually powerful RedHawks offense to the tune of only one run over 7.1 innings.
Helton allowed two runs on five hits over 5.2 innings while giving up two walks and striking out five. Lambson was the difference tonight, allowing just the lone run on five hits while fanning nine RedHawks.
The game was scoreless until the third inning, when Tim Colwell drove in Brennan Metzger after Metzger laced a one-out triple to the left-center field gap. Winnipeg's Reggie Abercrombie tied the game at one with a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning.
Abercrombie was a man on a mission today, driving in all 3 of the Goldeyes' runs. Winnipeg took the lead in the sixth inning after Abercrombie picked up his second RBI of the day on a looping single over the head of shortstop T.J. Bennett. The center fielder picked up his third RBI of the game on a fielder's choice in the eighth.
Victor Capellan took the mound in the ninth inning for the Goldeyes and sat the RedHawks down in order to pick up his league leading 23rd save of the season.
Both of the RedHawks' Hopes came on in relief tonight - Michael in the sixth and Carter in the ninth. Michael finished with one run against on three hits over 2.1 innings with one strikeout. Carter walked one before finishing out the ninth inning without allowing a hit.
The RedHawks and Goldeyes will resume their four-game series tomorrow night at 6 pm.
