St. Paul Saints News Release

WICHITA, KS - Just four outs away from being swept in the doubleheader the St. Paul Saints put together a two-out rally and came from behind to defeat the Wichita Wingnuts 3-2 in game two of the doubleheader Friday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

With the Saints down 1-0 in the sixth Willie Cabrera singled with two outs off of left-handed reliever Nick Walters. Left-hand hitting Brandon Tripp then singled Cabrera to third. The Wingnuts went to their bullpen for right-hander Lincoln Holdzkom. Jordan Tripp hit a grounder into the hole between short and third that shortstop Ryan Khoury fielded, but couldn't get enough on the throw and Jordan beat it out for an infield single scoring Cabrera to tie the game at one. Adam Frost followed that with a two-run double to give the Saints a 3-1 lead.

Saints starter Mark Hamburger, who was brilliant all night, was trying to go for the complete game. In the bottom of the seventh he gave up a leadoff single to Abel Nieves. Hamburger would strike out Mike Mobbs and Scott Dalrymple looking. He then balked Nieves to second. David Amberson singled just past Hamburgers glove into center that scored Nieves to make it 3-2. One out from the complete game, the Saints went to their closer Matt Meyer. He did the job getting pinch hitter Colt Loehrs to pop out to end the game and earning his sixth save of the season.. Hamburger went 6.2 innings allowing two runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out five.

The Wingnuts got on the board first in the third when Amberson led off with a single and scored on Ryan Khoury's RBI triple to give the Wingnuts a 1-0 lead.

The top hitter in the league, Brad Boyer who did not play in game one, went 0-4 snapping his 14 game hitting streak, one shy of tying his career high.

The same two teams meet in game three of the four game series on Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. The Saints send RHP Wes Roemer (3-2, 4.29) against Wingnuts RHP Justin Klipp (0-0, infinite). The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM.
