Saints Baffled by Hinson for Second Time in Week, Lose Game 1 of Doubleheader 7-2

WICHITA, KS (June 14, 2013) - The St. Paul Saints are breathing a sigh of relief that they don't have to face left-hander Ryan Hinson again in the regular season because for the second time in a week he kept them off balance in a 7-2 loss to the Wichita Wingnuts on Friday evening at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in game one of a double header.

Hinson, who entered play with the sixth best ERA in the American Association, made one lone mistake en route to his complete game. With the game scoreless in the second Ole Sheldon reached on an infield single and Brandon Tripp drilled his eighth homer of the season, a two-run shot to right, to give the Saints a 2-0 lead. Hinson would settle down from there and toss the 7.0 inning complete game allowing two runs on six hits while walking three and striking out eight.

The Saints couldn't hold the lead as the Wingnuts answered in the bottom of the inning. CJ Ziegler led off with a single off of starter George Jensen. Cole Armstrong singled him to second and Abel Nieves doubled home Ziegler to make it 2-1. Jensen, who walked the next hitter to load the bases, worked out of the bases loaded no out jam with a pop out and two strike outs.

He wasn't as fortunate in the third when he hit the leadoff hitter in the inning Jake Kahaulelio and gave up a two-run homer to John Rodriguez, his fifth of the season, to give the Wingnuts a 3-2 lead. Ziegler followed with a solo homer to left, his ninth of the season, to make it 4-2. With one out Abel Nieves singled, Mike Mobbs walked as did David Amberson to load the bases. Jensen was chased from the game on a two-run single from Jared McDonald to make it 6-2. Jensen lasted just 2.1 innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits while walking three and striking out two. University of Minnesota graduate, Billy Soule, made his pro debut and looked strong. He walked the first batter he faced, but went 2.2 shutout innings of relief giving up two hits while walking two and striking out two.
