Hinson, Ziegler Reach Milestones in Double Header Split

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (17-10) split a double header with the St. Paul Saints (15-12) at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Friday night, winning the opener 7-2 and falling in the nightcap 3-2.
In game one, Ryan Hinson threw the first complete game of his professional career, allowing two earned runs on six hits in seven innings pitched. Hinson walked three and struck out eight.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, C.J. Ziegler and Cole Armstrong singled back-to-back against Saints' starter George Jensen. Abel Nieves followed with an RBI double to right field that cut the lead in half. Wichita went on to load the bases with no outs, but Jensen kept the one-run lead intact.
The Wingnuts scored six times in the next inning against Jensen. Jake Kahaulelio was hit by a pitch leading off. John Rodriguez followed with a two-run homer to right-center that put Wichita in front. On the next pitch, Ziegler lined a home run to left that made it 4-2 Wingnuts. The home run was Ziegler's 27th as a Wingnut and set a new franchise record. It also gave Wichita back-to-back home runs for the first time since July 26th, 2011.
After Armstrong flied out to center, a single from Nieves and walks to Mike Mobbs and David Amberson loaded the bases with one out. Jared McDonald lined a single to right field that scored two more runs. With Amberson on third and McDonald on first, McDonald stole second base. Saints' catcher Mark Radmacher's throw went into center field, allowing Amberson to score Wichita's seventh run.
Hinson threw 108 pitches in the complete game effort and struck out the side in order in the top of the fourth.
Jensen took the loss, allowing seven runs, six earned, on seven hits in two and one-third innings. Jensen walked three and struck out two.
The Saints rallied for three two-out runs in the top of the sixth to win game two. With two outs and no one on base, Willie Cabrera and Brandon Tripp hit back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Jordan Tripp tied the game with an infield single. Adam Frost put St. Paul in front when he lined a two-run double to right-center.
The Wingnuts pulled within one run in the bottom of the seventh. Nieves singled leading off, and scored three batters later on a two-out single to center from Amberson. Saints' starter Mark Hamburger was relieved by Matt Meyer with Amberson on first and two outs. Meyer retired pinch hitter Cole Loehrs to end the game.
The Wingnuts took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Amberson singled up the middle leading off. Two batters later, Ryan Khoury tripled home Amberson on a line drive into the right field corner.
Hamburger earned the win, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in six and two-thirds innings. Hamburger walked one and struck out five.
Nick Walters took the loss for Wichita.
Anthony Capra made a spot start for Wichita in the nightcap. Capra tossed three scoreless innings on two hits. Capra walked two and struck out four.
Daniel Bennett worked two shutout innings in game two for the Wingnuts. With hits in each end of the double header, Amberson has now hit safely in 14 consecutive games.
Prior to the game, Wichita acquired Mobbs from the United League's San Angelo Colts in exchange for future considerations. Mobbs hit .388 in 19 games for San Angelo. Wichita also acquired catcher Scott Dalrymple from the Frontier League's River City Rascals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tyler White. Dalrymple hit .310 in 13 contests for River City and started game two of the double header for Wichita. Additionally, the Wingnuts signed rookie right-hander pitcher Josh Stone. Stone was 8-3 with a 2.15 ERA for Tabor College earlier this spring. Wichita released catcher Stephen Yoo and outfielder Tim Rotola.
