St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints are loading up with experienced arms down the stretch, as they signed former Major League RHP Tyler Walker.

Walker is coming off a 2010 campaign with the Washington Nationals, where he posted a 3.57 ERA in 35.1 innings but had his season cut short due to right shoulder inflammation. He needed shoulder surgery in his throwing arm in July. Walker logged the exact same amount of innings a year earlier in 2009 with the Philadelphia Phillies, this time with an ERA of 3.06.

Walker was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the second round of the 1997 MLB June amateur draft. Walker made his Major League debut with the New York Mets in 2002. After spending all of 2003 at the Detroit Tigers Triple-A affiliate, Walker made it back to the majors, pitching for the San Francisco Giants from 2004-2006. In April of 2006, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In the middle of the season, he was put on the disabled list with a strained right elbow and had to undergo Tommy John surgery. After his release at season's end, he caught back on with the Giants, pitching for them in 2007 and 2008.

In order to make room for Tyler Walker the Saints have released infielder Donald Blunt. Blunt appeared in 12 games. He did not have a hit in eight at bats, but did score two runs and drew a pair of walks.

The Saints roster now stands at league maximum with 22 players, 10 pitchers and 12 position players.
