
RailCats Drop Tight Contest to T-Bones

GARY, Ind. - The first-place Gary SouthShore RailCats took the lead in the fifth after falling behind early, only to see the visiting Kansas City T-Bones take control late to earn a 6-4 victory Friday evening at U. S. Steel Yard.
Kansas City (38-39) plated single tallies in the first two innings to take an early 2-0 lead. Keanon Simon singled, stole second and scored on an RBI-single by Rico Washington. The T-Bones scored their second run of the ballgame on a sacrifice fly by Gerardo Caceres in the second.
The RailCats (45-32) answered with a run in the fourth to cut the T-Bones advantage in half. After a pair of singles by Mike Massaro and Brad Boyer, Toddric Johnson knocked in Massaro for the RailCats first run. However, the visitors got one right back in the top half of the fifth, Simon collected the second of his three hits with a single to right and scored on another Washington RBI-single.
The offense for the âCats came to life in the bottom of the fifth erupting for three runs and capitalizing on two Kansas City errors to take a 4-3 lead. Mike Rohde doubled to get things rolling and catcher Mike Valadez followed suit with a double of his own to plate Rohde from second. After a Brian Kolb bunt single, Klein reached on an error by shortstop Jimmy Mojica with Valadez coming around to score on the play. With Cristian Guerrero at the plate, Kolb scored on the second error of the inning by the T-Bones.
Kansas City scored a run in each of the final three innings take the lead for good. The RailCats got the tying run to first in the ninth but failed to get any closer as Kyle Dahman shut the door for the T-Bones to earn his fourth save of the season. Righty Drew Graham (2-1, 3.80) claimed the victory for Kansas City after allowing just one hit over his 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. LHP Chris Little (0-3, 5.56) took the loss for the RailCats allowing one-run on two hits over his inning of relief.
The same two teams return to U. S. Steel Yard for a 6:10 p.m. contest Saturday as the RailCats send RHP Scott Shaw (7-3, 4.78) to the mound to face off against LHP Trent Lare (3-2, 5.54) for the T-Bones.
