Kansas City Monarchs News Release

FARGO, N.D. - Ray Sadler blasted two home runs and drove in his 100th RBI of the season on Tuesday night, but his four-RBI performance wasn't enough as the Kansas City T-Bones (48-52) fell to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (44-56) in the season finale, 6-5, at Newman Outdoor Field.

Kansas City opened the game with back-to-back singles before Sadler's first home run of the contest made the score 3-0 against Jack Frawley. The RedHawks answered off T.J. Large with two runs on consecutive RBI singles by C.J. Retherford and Nic Jackson in the bottom of the inning to pull within one, 3-2.

Kala Ka'aihue pushed the T-Bones advantage to two with a solo home run in the third before Retherford and Jackson duplicated their first-inning effort in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at four. Sadler responded with his second home run of the night in the fifth but an RBI single by Zach Penprase in the bottom half kept the teams even at 5-5.

Sadler was named to the 2011 American Association Post-Season All-Star Team prior to the game. The veteran outfielder went two-for-four in the contest and capped his franchise single-season record RBI total at 100, tops in the league. Sadler and Ka'aihue also finished tied for second in the American Association in home runs at 22 each. Tuesday marked the 100th start of the season for Sadler, making him the first T-Bones player to start 100 games in a single season.

Large surrendered five runs, four earned, on nine hits over five innings for Kansas City. Frawley allowed five runs on six hits over his five frames. Neither factored into the decision.

Brian Grening (6-4) threw two scoreless innings for Kansas City before surrendering a single to Jonathan Wyatt to open the bottom of the eighth. A single by Retherford two batters later pushed Wyatt to third before Jackson followed with a sacrifice fly to give Fargo a 6-5 lead. Kyle Dahman entered and induced a flyout to end the inning.

Grening was charged with one run on two hits over two and two-thirds innings in the loss. Adam Tollefson (1-3) allowed one hit over three scoreless innings of relief for the victory. Joe Harris retired the final two batters in the top of the ninth to secure his first save of the season.

Retherford (three-for-five, two RBI) and Jackson (two-for-four, three RBI) combined to drive in five of Fargo's six runs.

Tuesday was the season finale for both teams as the 2011 season comes to a close. The T-Bones now begin preparations for the 2012 campaign, which will be their 10th season since moving from Duluth, MN.
