Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- Wichita Wingnuts' third baseman Juan Richardson and shortstop Josh Horn have been elected to the American Association's 2011 Postseason All-Star Team.
Richardson currently ranks fourth in the league in batting at .361, fifth with 84 RBI, and has belted a team-best 12 home runs. On Saturday night at El Paso, the Bani, Dominican Republic native tied an American Association record with six hits, and tied a Wingnuts' club record with seven RBI. The 31-year old Richardson has helped lead the Wingnuts' offense down the stretch. Richardson is hitting .419 over his last 26 games in which he has 32 RBI. From June 24th through July 8th, Richardson hit .472 during a 14-game hitting streak.
Horn earns all-star honors for a third straight year in a Wingnuts' uniform and for a fifth time in five professional seasons. The Shelbyville, TN native is hitting .325 with four home runs, and a career-high 55 RBI. Horn's .325 average is best among American Association shortstops with more than 300 at bats. Like Richardson, the 27-year old Horn is finishing the season strong. Over his last 41 games, Horn is batting .370 with 34 runs scored and 24 RBI. Horn had a 15-game hitting streak earlier this season from July 15th through July 30th.
St. Paul Saints' outfielder Ryan Patterson was also named to the team. Patterson opened the season with the Wingnuts, and hit .299 with 11 home runs and 44 RBI in 55 games prior to being traded to Fort Worth in July.
The Wingnuts play their final scheduled regular season game tonight at El Paso at 8:05 p.m. Central Time. If the Wingnuts win, or if the Gary SouthShore RailCats lose to the St. Paul Saints, the Wingnuts will clinch the Central Division. Should the Wingnuts lose and the RailCats win, a one-game playoff would be scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
