Sacramento River Cats Pitch in with Corporate Sponsors to Help Raise Money for Charities and Schools
September 6, 2004 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. â Sacramento area non-profits and schools will be the real winners of the Triple-A baseball playoffs this fall during the "Champions for Education" fundraising drive. The team is recruiting charities and schools who want to raise money for their cause, as well as corporations to serve as sponsors for this year's second annual event.
Last year's "Champions for Education" drive raised $38,000 and this year's event is expected to be as successful. With the drive, the River Cats raise money in a number of ways including creating a fundraiser for local non-profits and schools, and working with corporate sponsors. In addition, the ball club will donate a portion of every playoff ticket sold to Sacramento schoolsâ especially for hard hit programs like athletics, music and the arts.
"The 2003 'Champions for Education' was such a huge success that we decided to make it an annual tradition during our playoff run," says Darrin Gross, the River Cats' Vice President, Corporate Partnerships & Broadcasting. "Last year's drive benefited more than 20 local schools and with this year's event we hope to expand into also helping area charities."
By participating in the program and selling River Cat homestand playoff tickets, area non-profits and schools have the opportunity to raise additional dollars for their organization. Schools and charities simply purchase discounted playoff tickets from Raley Field for $5 and sell them at the full cost of $10. For every seat they sell, $5 from each ticket sold will go to the non-profit or school. The tickets will be good for the playoff games on September 8, 9, 14 and 15. Charities are not charged for any tickets they don't sell. People who buy tickets from the charities or schools will receive a $7 discount off the $17 regular price of Senate seats, $5 off a Gold seat, and $1 off a Delta seat (while seats are available). Area businesses are also encouraged to step up to the plate and get involved. Three corporate sponsorsâ Comcast, SureWest Wireless and Jelly Bellyâhave already signed on to participate for 2004, contributing a total of $7,500 for area charities. Each sponsor has allocated $2,500 to a school and/or program of choice. Corporate sponsors receive 500 tickets to the River Cats' first playoff game on Wednesday, September 8th, allowing employees, friends and families to enjoy the action while supporting a good cause. In addition, sponsors will receive recognition as a "Champion for Education" throughout the game on a video/matrix board, the public address system and through English and Spanish Radio promotional mentions as well as an on field check presentation. Sponsors also receive a pre-game VIP Party invitation.
In addition, for every other seat sold by the River Cats during the playoffs, another $1will be donated to the "Champions for Education" campaign.
