Memphis Redbirds News Release

Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings and held on to beat Nashville 9-7 Sunday night at AutoZone Park thanks to two sixth-inning insurance runs.

CF Chris Prieto hit an RBI double and SS Bo Hart added a two-run single as Memphis went up 3-0 in the second inning. C Mike Mahoney's RBI single in the third brought in the fourth run, and the Redbirds posted another three-run inning in the fourth.

Nashville rallied with four runs off two Memphis pitchers in the sixth, but the Redbirds got two back in the bottom of the inning when Prieto led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. A John Gall RBI single brought home the final Memphis run.

The Sounds blasted three home runs against the Memphis bullpen but could not get over the hump. RHP Evan Rust (3-1) went the first 5.1 innings, allowing three runs, for the win, and RHP Al Reyes tossed a perfect ninth for his league-leading 23rd save. Hart led the offensive surge with three hits, and Prieto, Scott Seabol, Gall and Mahoney added two apiece.

Memphis closes out the 2004 season with a 1:05 Labor Day matinee tomorrow against the Sounds.
