Sacco Drives in Four, Tourists Take Second Straight
September 9, 2023 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Asheville Tourists News Release
ROME- The Asheville Tourists defeated the Rome Braves 4-1 on Saturday night for their second straight victory. Asheville received a pair of two-run singles from Tommy Sacco Jr. and a tremendous pitching performance from Luis Angel Rodriguez, Brayan de Paula, and Deylen Miley.
The Braves were limited to one run on four hits. Rome's run came in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI groundout. Rodriguez kept the third inning damage to only the one run and Rome rarely threatened the rest of the way.
Asheville loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fourth. Sacco Jr. worked a full count and then lined a two-run single into right field. Tyler Whitaker and Miguel Palma both scored and put the Tourists in front 2-1.
Sacco Jr. struck again in the sixth. Tommy stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and lined an 0-2 pitch into centerfield that once again plated Whitaker and Palma.
De Paula pitched a scoreless fifth inning while Miley worked the final four frames without allowing any runs. Deylen struck out five Braves hitters which moved him into a tie for the sixth most strikeouts in the South Atlantic League this season. Miley has a Tourists best 120 strikeouts this year.
Asheville and Rome are back in action at 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon. It is the final game of the 2023 season for both teams.
