Rysavy, Czechia into Semifinal; Baco, Slovakia Fall in Overtime

Robert Baco and Slovakia gave Canada everything they could handle in their quarterfinal matchup on Monday.

Canada prevailed 4-3 in overtime over Slovakia during a back-and-forth game at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship in Halifax, NS.

Baco scored late in the second period to pull Slovakia to within one at 3-2.

It was the second goal of the tournament for the Moose Jaw Warriors forward.

Baco played a physical game throughout, finishing plus-one during 14:29 of ice time.

In Moncton, NB, Martin Rysavy and Czechia cruised into the semifinals with a 9-1 win over Switzerland in their quarterfinal showdown on Monday.

After Switzerland opened the scoring, Czechia scored nine straight goals to advance into the next round.

Rysavy had one shot and finished even during 12:44 of ice time in the win.

Czechia will now take on Sweden in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. CST, while Canada squares off with the United States in the other semifinal at 5:30 p.m. CST on Wednesday in Halifax.
