Defenceman Rhys Pederson to Join Oil Kings for Remainder of 2022-23 Season

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings have announced that 2006-born defenceman Rhys Pederson will be joining the club for the remainder of the season.

Pederson, 16, was selected by the Oil Kings in the fifth round, 90th overall, of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft last December.

This season, he has suited up in seven games with the Oil Kings as an affiliate player, recording six penalty minutes and a -2 plus/minus rating.

The 6-foot-3, 189-pound rearguard is a Stettler, AB product and has been playing this season with the NAX U18 Prep team where he has recorded nine points (4G, 5A) and eight penalty minutes in 16 games.

Last season, he helped NAX capture the CSSHL U16 Championship after tallying 28 points (6G, 22A) in 32 regular season games and an additional six assists in five post-season games. Pederson was also named to the CSSHL U16 All-Academic Team.

The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is Friday, January 6 when they play host to the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7:00 P.M.
