FANTASTIC FOUR
The Rebels are 4-0 since their return from the holiday break on the strength of two wins each versus the Edmonton Oil Kings and Calgary Hitmen.
Red Deer defeated Edmonton 7-1 at the Peavey Mart Centrium on Tuesday, Dec. 27 and 6-2 at Rogers Place on Friday, Dec. 30. The Rebels are a perfect 8-0 versus the Oil Kings this season.
The Rebels are also a perfect 5-0 versus the Hitmen this season after a 4-1 win over Calgary Thursday, Dec. 29 at the Peavey Mart Centrium and 5-3 at the Scotiabank Saddledome on New Year's Day.
Red Deer is now 26-6-1-3 on the season and are 13 points ahead of Lethbridge for first place in the Central Division.
UPCOMING GAMES
For the first time since November, the Rebels leave Alberta this week for a pair of games in Saskatchewan. Friday night, January 6, the Rebels visit the Prince Albert Raiders (6 p.m. MT). Red Deer is 2-0 versus Prince Albert this season.
The following night, Saturday, January 7, the Rebels visit the Saskatoon Blades (6 p.m. MT), who defeated the Rebels 4-3 in overtime at the Peavey Mart Centrium on Dec. 2 in their only head-to-head meeting this far.
COBRA KAI
Rebels centre Kai Uchacz continues to show no mercy to his opponents having netted three hat tricks in his last four games to take over the WHL lead in goals with 33. Uchacz was named to the CHL Team of the Month for December after registering 12 goals and six assists for 18 points in 10 games. He was also named WHL Player of the Week on Tuesday. The 19-year-old from Okotoks is third overall in the WHL with 51 points in 36 games.
STONE COLD STOESSER
Rookie netminder Rhett Stoesser is on a personal eight-game winning streak for the Rebels. The 17-year-old netminder from Carstairs own's the WHL's fourth-best goals against average (2.20) and 11th-best save percentage (.911). Six times during his current eight-game winning streak he has held opponents to two goals or less.
LIND INVITED TO TOP PROSPECTS GAME
Rebels forward Kalan Lind has been invited to play at the 2023 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, January 25 in Langley, BC. The 18-year-old sophomore from Shaunavon, SK is currently a B-rated prospect by NHL Central Scouting for the 2023 NHL Draft. Lind, the Rebels' 1st round pick (6th overall) at the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft, won gold with Team Canada at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup held at the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer, July 31-August 6. The Shaunavon, SK native also played at the Capital City Challenge in Ottawa last November.
