Calgary Hitmen News Release
Saskatoon, SK - The Calgary Hitmen kicked off a four-game road trip Tuesday night in Saskatoon taking on the Blades for the first time this season. Calgary scored three unanswered goals to skate to a 3-2 victory.
Saskatoon held the lead for the majority of the game until Calgary mounted their comeback in the third period. Brandon Lisowsky opened up the game scoring at the end of the first. Vaughn Watterodt followed up in the second period scoring shorthanded to make it 2-0. It was looking as though Saskatoon was going to take a three goal lead with Watterodt's second of the game, but the goal was overturned due to a high stick.
Calgary was kept off the scoresheet until 10:19 in the third when Oliver Tulk kickstarted the comeback, burying one bar down on Saskatoon goaltender Austin Elliott. With his 15th of the season, the forward extended his point streak to five games. The the tying goal came from Sean Tschigerl less than five minutes later with assists from Zac Funk and Riley Fiddler-Schultz.
Calgary would get a four minute power play to finish the period but it was successfully killed off by the home team, pushing the game to overtime. A partial breakaway for Trevor Wong was denied by Ethan Buenaventura, forcing the play back the other way with Grayden Siepmann picking up a rebound off a shot from Jacob Wright, winning it for Calgary in extra minutes.
Ethan Buenaventura earned first star making 27 saves. The goaltender reached the milestone of 1,000 career saves in tonight's game. Alternate Captain Tyson Galloway also reached a milestone of 150 career games played.
Calgary is back on the ice tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 4 in Prince Albert for a date with the Raiders. The road trip then heads to Moose Jaw Friday before ending in Regina on Sunday. The Hitmen will then return to Calgary to play their next five on home ice. It all begins Friday, Jan. 13 at Scotiabank Saddledome against the Swift Current Broncos. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
