Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
Dubuque, IA - The USHL has announced it's all USHL teams this afternoon with a pair of Fighting Saints represented. Forward Ryan St. Louis and defenseman Max Burkholder were both named to the All-USHL Second Team.
St. Louis finished the regular season with 30 goals and 72 points. St. Louis, who is in his first season in Dubuque and is committed to Brown University, led the Fighting Saints in most major offensive statistics. He ranked fifth in the league in scoring, tied-eighth in goals, and tied-seventh in assists.
Burkholder meanwhile was one of the best defensemen in the USHL all season. The blue liner closed out the regular season with the most goals (17) by any defenseman and his 51 points were tied for the most in the league. Burkholder appeared in every game this season for the Fighting Saints.
Both St. Louis and Burkholder combined to break numerous Dubuque records and cement themselves in top 10 all-time lists in several categories.
For Burkholder, he became the first Dubuque defensemen to record a hat trick since 2019 in a 4-3 win over Des Moines on November 26th. He also became the franchise's Tier 1 record holder for goals, assists, and points in a single season. Burkholder also used this season to crush the all-time career goals mark by a Fighting Saints defensemen with 28, passing Keegan Ford who had 14. Burkholder's 17 goals this season alone would have broken the record.
Not to be outshone was St. Louis. After spending last season at Northeastern University in the NCAA, the former United States National Development Program (USNTDP) prospect returned to the USHL and dominated. St. Louis had the third best single season in Fighting Saints Tier 1 history on a points per game basis. His 72 points in 58 games were tied for the fourth most in a season with current NHL all-star Johnny Gaudreau and NHL Rookie of the Year candidate Matias Maccelli.
Burkholder, who is committed to Colorado College, was drafted in third round, 36th overall by Dubuque in the 2019 USHL Phase I Draft. He is a native of Chaska, Minnesota. St. Louis, the son of NHL Hall of Famer and Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis, was drafted by the Fighting Saints in the first round, 12th overall in the 2022 USHL Phase II Draft.
