Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Four Chicago Steel players earned United States Hockey League team honors with three forwards named to 2023 All-USHL Teams, and two named to 2023 All-Rookie Teams, the League announced Monday.

Macklin Celebrini was named to the All-USHL First Team and All-Rookie First Team, Jack Harvey was named to the All-USHL Second Team, Nick Moldenhauer was named to the All-USHL Third Team, and Michael Hagens was named to the All-Rookie Second Team.

The Steel continued a league-best streak of now six consecutive seasons with at least one player selected to the All-USHL First Team and seven consecutive seasons with at least one player named as a USHL All-Rookie selection.

Celebrini, a top prospect for the 2024 NHL Draft, led the USHL with 46 goals in 50 games played for the Steel during the 2022-2023 regular season, the second-most goals in a single season in franchise history. The Boston University commit added 40 helpers and totaled 86 points to lead the USHL, shattering the league record for most points by a U17 player (69, Taylor Cammarata 2011-2012).

The six-foot, 199 lbs., 16-year-old forward from Vancouver, British Columbia, is the 12th Chicago Steel player in franchise history to earn All-USHL First Team Honors. Celebrini was also named to the 2022-2023 All-Rookie First Team. Celebrini was awarded USHL Forward of the Week six times during the regular season.

"Mack's adjustment to the USHL as a rookie was astounding," said Steel Head Coach and General Manager Mike Garman. "Every week you could see him developing as a player and becoming more dominant. His relentless work ethic on and off the ice is a huge reason why he enjoyed so much success in his rookie season."

Harvey ranked third among all Steel players and fourth among all USHL players in points with 74 (40G, 34A) in 62 games. He and Celebrini were the only two 40-goal scorers in the USHL this season. Harvey totaled 75 career goals during the regular season, breaking the franchise record for most career goals. A Boston University commit, Harvey ranked #146 in the NHL Central Scouting (NHLCS) Final Rankings ahead of the 2023 NHL Draft.

"Jack continues to round out his game," said Garman. "Not only is he very gifted offensively with a knack for scoring, but he's able to extend possessions with his body position and puck protection. He thinks the game at such a high level, he makes everyone on the ice better. He's someone you want to play in all situations-a key contributor offensively and defensively."

Moldenhauer, a University of Michigan commit and Third Round (#95) Toronto Maple Leafs selection in the 2022 draft, was second on the Steel and third in the USHL in points with 75 (30G, 45A). With 45 helpers, Moldenhauer ranked second on the Steel and fourth in the USHL in assists.

"Nick is an extremely competitive and dynamic player," said Garman. "He plays with a lot of speed and an attack mindset. He's relentless on the forecheck and very hard to play against. Nick is a natural leader and true competitor. Not only is he a great talent but his work ethic makes him a force every time he's on the ice."

Hagens ranked third among all Steel defensemen and second among all USHL rookie defensemen in points with 26 (9G, 17A). The Harvard University commit led all Steel defensemen and tied eighth among USHL defensemen in goals with 9. He ranked #103 in the NHL Central Scouting (NHLCS) Final Rankings ahead of the 2023 NHL Draft.

"Michael's growth has been incredible," said Garman. "His skating and puck skills are dynamic and he has a brilliant feel for the game. He's tough, competitive, and hard to play against. He's a rock defensively, he has great gapping and angling and can quickly transition plays from defense to offense."
