Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI - Ahead of the 2023 USHL entry draft the Muskegon Lumberjacks announced an addition to the coaching staff. Evan Trupp, a native of Anchorage, Alaska will serve as one of the team's Assistant Coaches starting in the 2023-24 season.

Trupp comes to Muskegon after spending the last two seasons in the North American Hockey League with his hometown team, The Anchorage Wolverines. As an assistant coach in 2021-22 Trupp helped the Wolverines to an appearance in the Robertson Cup playoffs where they played in the Championship game after a 33-19-4-4 record in the regular season. Promoted to the Head Coaching position for the 2022-23 season Trupp and the Wolverines finished the season with a 28-24-6-2 record.

Head coach Parker Burgess when asked about adding coach Trupp to the staff said "Evan comes to us after a pair of very successful seasons in the NAHL with the Anchorage Wolverines including an appearance in the Robertson Cup Final in 2022. Pair that with his playing experience at the NCAA DI and professional levels and we believe his addition is going to make a huge impact on the development of our players"

Coach Burgess added "Evan set himself apart through the process not only through his coaching ability, but through the connections he has made with former teammates and players. Everyone I spoke to told me how great of a person he is, and how much passion he has for the game. He's going to be a great addition for not just the players, but the rest of the staff too.

Before his time behind the bench Trupp had an extensive playing career including stints at the NCAA DI, and professional levels. Through 4 seasons as a member of the North Dakota Fighting Hawks Trupp played in 157 career games recording 108 points on 40 goals and 68 assists. In 2010 North Dakota won the WCHA Men's Hockey Tournament where Trupp was named the Tournament MVP, and followed up in 2011 with another large contribution from Trupp.

In his pro career Trupp started in the ECHL with stops in Cincinnati, Bakersfield, and Alaska before moving on to the AHL with Abbotsford, Worcester, and Chicago. In three years in the AHL Trupp played in 148 career games. His pro hockey career ended with five seasons overseas including four in Germany in the DEL, the nations top professional hockey league.

Lumberjacks President of Hockey Operations Steve Lowe added on to the praise of coach Trupp with "It was a no brainer to add coach Trupp to our staff. He brings valuable experience as both a coach and player at high levels and will be a great resource for Lumberjacks players."

When asked about his new role coach Trupp said "I'm excited to join the staff and be a part of such a great organization. Raythan Robbins played with me in Anchorage last season and had nothing but great things to say about the team and staff." Trupp finished by adding "I'm excited to learn from Parker and the rest of the staff in Muskegon."
