Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
DUBUQUE, IA - Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Owen Michaels has been named the USHL's Forward of the Week after the opening week of the Clark Cup Playoffs. Michaels two-way game led the Fighting Saints to a come from behind series win against Green Bay and carried them in their second round series in Chicago.
Michaels collected at least one point in each of Dubuque's five playoff games, registering three goals and five assists, and led the USHL in scoring through the first two rounds of the post season. Michaels scored the Fighting Saints' only goal in both of their game one series losses, along with the series winning goal in game three over the Green Bay Gamblers in round one. In game two of the Green Bay series, the Western Michigan commit recorded three primary assists to help Dubuque keep their season afloat.
The strong post season run shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Michaels was one of the USHL's best offensive players down the stretch run. The Detroit native closed out the regular season with points in 10 of his final 13 games. Including his playoff run, Michaels registered 11 goals and 11 assists over an 18 game stretch starting on March 16th.
The Forward of the Week honor is the first that the veteran forward has received in his USHL career. He joins Max Burkholder, Ryan St. Louis, and Marcus BrÃännman as Saints to have taken home league recognition this season.
