Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS- Adam Russo upstaged fellow teammate Thomas Beauregard's two goal effort on Saturday night as the eight-year pro recorded his first shutout of the season, helping Wichita (16-7-0) beat Rio Grande Valley (10-10-4) at INTRUST Bank Arena, 3-0. Wichita has now won four straight, all on home ice and lead the league with 12 home wins. Coupled with an Allen loss, Wichita moves into a first place tie with the Americans in the Berry Conference with 32 points.
For the second straight night, Wichita got on the board first when Aaron Davis (11) caught a pass at the red line, came in on a two-on-one and snapped a shot past Rio Grande goaltender John Murray to make it 1-0. Davis was held without a point last night, but had a goal and two assists this past Tuesday against Fort Wayne.
Thomas Beauregard (11) added to the Thunder lead in the second period at the 11 minute mark when Alex Bourret, who was denied on a breakaway seconds before, skated in alone and dished it off before he got caught by the defender. Beauregard quickly moved up into the play and put it by Murray to give Wichita a 2-0 lead. Wichita used the stretch pass a number of times in the second period as Bourret had another break, but his slap shot missed the net.
Beauregard notched his second of the game in the third period at the 3:13 mark as new-comer RG Flath dished it off to Beauregard and beat Murray for his team leading 12th goal of the season. Adam Russo was able to hold the fort down the stretch and earned his fifth professional shutout, stopping 20 shots and earned his 12th win of the year, 3-0.
Wichita ties its season long winning streak at four and hands the Killer Bees their eighth straight loss. The Thunder will travel down to Texas tomorrow afternoon to take on the Brahmas in North Richland Hills at 4pm. The Thunder will play the next three straight away from home before returning home December 27th against rival Missouri.
