Gems Game #23, Road Game #14 - Team Record 8-10-4, 20pts, 6th in Turner Conference
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems return to action inside the US Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington for the second time this weekend, after most recently falling 5-3 to the Blaze on Friday night. Both teams will travel back to Cassano's Italian Ice inside Hara Arena for the series conclusion at 4pm on Sunday.
The Gems (8-10-4) saw their fifth straight loss despite a valiant three goal comeback effort in the third period after finding themselves down four goals after forty minutes. Dayton's last victory came back on December 2 with a 6-3 win over the Missouri Mavericks.
Gameday In Bloomington
The Gems get right back into it with the Blaze in game two of the three game weekend series against Bloomington. The Blaze picked up their sixth win of the season and second against the Gems Friday night, earning them their impressive fifth straight win on home ice. The Blaze brings their 6-13-2 record into Saturday night's meeting with the Gems after inching closer in the standings with just six points separating the two clubs.
Dayton Gems Game Notes
Scorin' Surma - Gems forward Damian Surma notched his team-leading thirteenth goal of the season in the Gems 5-3 loss at Bloomington on Friday.
Offensive Machine - Dayton's offensive duo of Surma and Lutes have combined for a whopping 55 points this season, while Surma leads the team in goals (13) and Lutes leads the Gems in assists (20) and total points with 28.
Minor Worries - While leading the Gems in scoring points, Brett Lutes also currently leads the CHL in minor penalties, being whistled off the ice 19 times in his 18 games played.
Sharp Shooter - Despite spending time on the IR, Gems forward Charlie Townsend is still one of the tops in the CHL when it comes to shooting percentage, ranked third in the league with 3 goals in 11 shots (.273).
