
Mavericks Fall in Overtime to Mallards, 3-2

MOLINE, Illinois - The Missouri Mavericks were defeated by the Quad City Mallards in overtime, 3-2, Saturday night at i wireless Center. The Mavericks earned a point in the loss and fell to 10-9-3 on the season. Dale Mahovsky and Dave Pszenyczny scored for the Mavericks and goaltender Gerry Festa stopped 32 shots in his first game since November 19. The Mallards swept the weekend series over the Mavericks and beat Missouri for the first time ever in Moline. Missouri travels to Evansville for a 5:05 p.m. game at Ford Center in Evansville.
Mahovsky opened the scoring less than one minute into the game when he beat Mallards' goaltender David McKee just 55 seconds into the game. Ryan Jardine and Mike Wakita earned the assists on the goal and it was the only goal until the 9:46 mark of the third period.
After a scoreless second period, the Mallards tied the game and took the lead with a pair of goals just 1:30 apart. Jeremy Boyer and Jared Brown scored at the midway point of the third period to take a 2-1 lead over the Mavericks, but Missouri answered back. Pszenyczny scored on the power play with just under three minutes remaining to tie the game at 2-2. He was assisted by Ed McGrane and Andrew Courtney. The teams remained tied for the final three minutes of the game, although the Mallards had a 34-17 edge in shots.
Quad City struck on their first shot of the overtime period just 12 seconds into the extra frame. Justin Chwedoruk's shot from the slot beat Festa and gave the Mallards their first win over the Mavericks at i wireless Center. Missouri was 5-0-0 in Quad City all-time before the overtime loss.
The Mavericks travel to Evansville to take on the second-place IceMen Sunday at Ford Center at 5:05 p.m. Missouri will return home for a game Tuesday night at Independence Events Center against the Laredo Bucks.
