Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - On Tuesday night, the Rush avenged their Valentine's Day shootout loss to the Colorado Eagles with the first shutout victory of the season, 1-0. Rookie goaltender Danny Battochio made 36 saves for his first career shutout while Derek LeBlanc scored the game-winner just 42 seconds into overtime. The last time the Eagles were shutout was over a year ago, back on November 29th, 2008 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, the 4-0 home opener for the Rush. With the win, the Rush regain the point lost in Sunday's contest, and now have a four point cushion in the Northern Conference standings.
Both teams battled back and forth with scoring chances for either side but excellent netminding by both Battochio and Andrew Penner kept the game scoreless through regulation time. Shots through 60 minutes favored the Rush 38 to 36.
In the extra period, Les Reaney wedged the puck free behind the net where Derek LeBlanc circled to the high slot and fired a puck past Penner for the game winner just 42 seconds into overtime.
With the goal, LeBlanc now has tallies in four straight games since returning from the injured reserve. Les Reaney now has 65 points on the year, setting a new single-season high for the Rush.
The Rush, despite setting an all-time high with 13 combined goals two nights ago against the Eagles, won the lowest-scoring affair in team history tonight. In Sunday's tilt, both starting netminder were pulled, but both sides battled back to showcase their goaltending prowess just two days later.
The Rush picked up seven out of a possible eight points in the tough stretch of four games against the Odessa Jackalopes and Colorado Eagles.
The next home game for the Rapid City Rush is Wednesday, February 24th against the Arizona Sundogs. Tickets are still available for that contest.
