DAVENPORT, Iowa - Second baseman Esteury Ruiz hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season, but the TinCaps lost the rubber match of their series against the Quad Cities River Bandits (Houston Astros), 7-1, at Modern Woodmen Park on a sunny and warm Wednesday afternoon.

Ruiz's homer came in the top of the ninth inning, at which point Fort Wayne (14-19) trailed 7-0. The wiry 19-year-old from the Dominican Republic hit a 369-foot shot over the wall in left field.

In the eighth inning, 'Caps catcher Juan Fernandez hit an opposite-field double to right, which extended his on-base streak to 20 games. The 19-year-old has reached base safely in every game he's had a plate appearance this year. It's the sixth longest streak in the league this season.

Quad Cities (18-13), however, took a 1-0 lead in the third when Jacob Meyers ambushed led off the frame and ambushed the first pitch Emmanuel Ramirez threw over the fence in left. The Bandits got one more run off Ramirez in the fourth. The right-hander worked five innings, striking out nine.

The River Bandits erupted for four runs in the sixth and added another for good measure on a Corey Julks solo homer in the eighth.

Fort Wayne finished the game 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
