The Richmond Flying Squirrels completed a three-game sweep of the Akron RubberDucks with a 5-2 win on Tuesday night at The Diamond in Richmond, Va.

Turning Point

The Flying Squirrels (43-38) rallied for four runs in the fifth inning against Akron lefty Ryan Merritt (5-7) to erase a two-run RubberDucks lead. Shortstop Rando Moreno clubbed a two-run double, and Mitch Delfino chipped in a two-run single as the Squirrels sent eight men to the plate.

Mound Presence

Merritt cruised through the first four innings, holding the Squirrels scoreless on two hits. he ran into trouble in the fifth, issuing a one-out walk and two hits prior to Moreno's game-tying double. Merritt matched his season-high with eight strikeouts. Righthander Jacob Lee tossed two perfect innings of relief of Merritt in the sixth and seventh. Richmond starter Tyler Beede (2-3) worked seven innings and scattered four hits and two runs to earn the win. Beede, San Francisco's top draft pick last year, fanned five in the game.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks (43-41) notched two runs off Beede in the fourth inning on back-to-back, two-out RBI hits by Anthony Gallas and Carlos Moncrief. Gallas laced a double to right, and Moncrief followed with an RBI single against the shift. It was Moncrief's first RBI of the season for Akron.

Notes

The RubberDucks have lost five in a row...The Flying Squirrels added an insurance run in the eighth inning off Akron reliever Josh Martin to make it 5-2...Time of game: 2:36...Attendance: 2,753.
