Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Despite a ten-strikeout game from Steven Brault, the Altoona Curve were shut out by the Harrisburg Senators, 3-0, on Monday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
The Curve (44-39) were held to just six hits and shut out for the second time this season, with both coming against the Senators (41-43).
Brault became the first Curve pitcher to strike out more than eight batters in a game this season and extended his scoreless streak to 19.1 innings into the sixth before the Senators took the lead.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth, Wilmer Difo hit a two-run infield single that deflected off of Brault and rolled between first and second base. Later in the inning, Brian Goodwin reached on an infield single to score Derrick Robinson and extend the Harrisburg lead to 3-0.
Brault worked 5.2 innings in the game, allowing three earned runs on ten hits and a walk.
Dakota Bacus (Win, 5-1) pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing just six hits. In his two starts against the Curve this year, Bacus has totaled 15 scoreless innings. He also pitched a seven-inning complete game the only other time the Curve have been blanked this season.
Harrisburg reliever Abel De Los Santos (Save, 4) sealed the shutout with a perfect ninth.
Adam Frazier singled in the eighth inning extended his hitting streak to nine games.
Curve reliever Clario Perez pitched 2.1 innings without allowing a run, working around one hit and one walk. Tom Harlan pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Altoona travels to Erie for the opener of a three-game series on Tuesday night. First pitch at Jerry Uht Park is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Matt Benedict (3-3, 5.12) gets the nod for the Curve as he opposes SeaWolves righty Austin Kubitza (5-6, 5.05).
Airtime for Tuesday night's game at Erie on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. For tickets to Curve home games and more information, visit AltoonaCurve.com, call 877.99.CURVE or stop by the PNG Field box office.
