Monday, July 6, 2015 - Game #82 - Home Game #40
NYSEG Stadium - Binghamton, NY - 6:35 PM
LAST GAME: The B-Mets turned in an ugly performance in their 6-1 loss against Portland Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton committed two errors and two balks, leading to four Portland runs, while going 0-for-10 with men in scoring position. Dustin Lawley drove in the lone run with a ninth inning groundout. John Gant took the loss in his return to Double-A, allowing an earned run in six innings. The two teams have now split the opening two games of the series.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Robert Gsellman is making his seventh start with Binghamton and first against Portland. The righty is coming off a win, allowing three runs in six innings against Erie. Gsellman has pitched to a 3.19 ERA in his last five starts. He has earned a decision in each of his last eight starts. Gsellman has a 2.50 ERA in three road starts.
PORTLAND STARTER: RHP Luis Diaz is making his 16th start of the season and second against Binghamton. He's coming off a loss, allowing two runs in six innings vs. New Hampshire. Diaz has worked to a 7.41 ERA in seven road starts. He allowed two runs in two innings against Binghamton in the first go-round, with rain cutting the outing short. Lefties are batting .323 against Diaz this season. He is in search of his first win since July 5th, 2014, when he beat New Britain 25 starts ago.
RISP: The B-Mets went hitless in 10 at-bats Sunday with men in scoring position. Binghamton is now batting .152 (5-33) with runners in scoring position over their last four games.
AT STAKE: A win Monday would give Binghamton their first series win in five tries. The B-Mets have gone 0-3-1 in their past four series, since sweeping Portland at Hadlock Field, June 16-18. A win for the Sea Dogs would snap an 11 series losing streak. Portland has not win or split a series since May 26-28, when they took two of three from the B-Mets at NYSEG Stadium.
CLINCHER: A win Monday would clinch the season series for Binghamton, who has taken 10 of the first 15 games against Portland this season. The Sea Dogs won the season series in 2014, 12-9, while Binghamton took 13 of 20 in 2013.
STRIKEOUT: Binghamton has struck out 21 Sea Dogs through the first two games of the series. It's the second time Binghamton has racked up double-digit K's in back-to-back games this season, and the first since May 1-2. The 11 strikeouts the B-Mets pitching staff had Saturday night matched a season-high.
NEW ERA: Binghamton got their team ERA under 4.00 after Saturday's game for the first time since April 16th. It currently sits at 3.96, third highest in the EL. The B-Mets have a 2.53 ERA over their last 23 games.
WALK THIS WAY: Binghamton has drawn 42 walks in 15 games against Portland this season, averaging 2.8 per game. The B-Mets have drawn the second fewest walks this season, while Portland has handed out the second most. Binghamton walked four times in Sunday's loss after walking four times in their previous four games combined.
RUBBER MATCH: The B-Mets are 1-5 in rubber matches, getting outscored 31-15 in the six games. The Sea Dogs are 2-7 in rubber matches this season, losing their last four.
ERRORS: Portland has committed 25 errors in their last 20 games and rank second overall in the EL this year.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets welcome in the New Britain Rock Cats for a three game series beginning Tuesday night with a 6:35 PM first pitch at NYSEG Stadium. RHP Gabriel Ynoa gets the starts for Binghamton.
