Akron RubberDucks News Release
Altoona right-hander Pedro Vasquez (5-1) held the Akron RubberDucks to one hit in six scoreless innings to lead the Curve to a 4-2 win to clinch a series victory in the finale of a four-game set at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Sunday night.
Turning Point
In a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning, Curve second baseman Mitchell Tolman hit a leadoff single to right field for his team's first hit off Akron left-hander Tanner Tully (5-5). First baseman Jerrick Suiter singled to right, and both runners reached scoring position after designated hitter Logan Hill's groundout. Third baseman Hunter Owen then hit an RBI single to center field. Right fielder Bligh Madris grounded to second base, scoring another run, and catcher Arden Pabst hit an RBI single to center field for a 3-0 Altoona lead.
Mound Presence
Tully retired the first eight batters of the game and held Altoona hitless through the first three innings. After the three-run fourth inning, he pitched a scoreless fifth inning, lasting five innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Left-handers Anthony Gose and Kyle Nelson each pitched scoreless innings, before right-hander Dalbert Siri allowed an unearned run in the eighth inning, growing the Curve lead to 4-2. For Altoona, Vasquez allowed a game-opening single before recording 18 straight outs.
Duck Tales
Trailing 3-0 with one hit entering the seventh inning, Akron got three straight hits off right-hander Blake Cederlind. Left fielder Ka'ai Tom hit a leadoff double, center fielder Alex Call singled to right field, and first baseman Wilson Garcia hit an RBI double to the left-field warning track. Catcher Li-Jen Chu drove in another run with a groundout, but Cederlind stranded the tying run at third base. Akron had two runners on base in the eighth against right-hander Angel German and again in the ninth against right-hander Matt Eckelman before a game-ending double play.
