
One-Hitter Leads Fisher Cats to 2-0 Win on Sunday

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Nate Pearson and Willy Ortiz combined for a one-hitter as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) shut out the Richmond Flying Squirrels (San Francisco Giants) 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Delta Dental Stadium.
New Hampshire (28-32) pitchers faced the minimum 27 batters, allowing only an infield single by Johneshwy Fargas in the top of the fourth inning. He was erased on an attempted stolen base. Jacob Heyward reached on an error in the fifth, but was also thrown out by catcher Riley Adams.
Pearson, the top pitching prospect in the Blue Jays organization, did not a walk batter and struck out three in his five innings.
Ortiz (W, 2-3) retired all twelve batters he faced with three strikeouts in four innings of perfect relief.
The Fisher Cats broke through for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Forrest Wall started the rally with a single and Vinny Capra followed with a base hit. After the next two batters were retired, Chad Spanberger doubled off the right field wall to score both runners.
Brandon Beachy (L, 1-2) took the loss for Richmond (22-38).
After Monday's off day, the Fisher Cats open a six-game road trip on Tuesday night in Bowie, Maryland. Game time is 6:35 p.m. New Hampshire will return to Delta Dental Stadium on Tuesday, June 18 to complete the first portion of the split-season against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
