Rubber Match in Williamsport Slips Away

Troy, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats were unable to pull out the win in their rubber match with the Williamsport Crosscutters on Friday night, losing at BB&T Ballpark by a score of 3-1.

Tri-City out-hit Williamsport seven hits to six, making for its first loss this season when out-hitting the opposition.

All of the game's runs were scored in the fifth inning.

Tri-City broke onto the scoreboard with an RBI single for Carlos Machado to take a 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Williamsport's Jonathan Guzman and Madison Stokes used run-scoring hits to take a 3-1 lead the stuck for the rest of the night.

The ValleyCats' starter Felipe Tejada picked up the loss, despite striking out a season-high eight batters and yielding the Crosscutters' only six hits.

Devin Conn and Juan Pablo Lopez combined to not allow a baserunner through the final three innings of the game.

Now 15-12, the ValleyCats stand one game ahead of the Vermont Lake Monsters in the New York-Penn League's Stedler Division entering their series with the State College Spikes on Saturday night.

The ValleyCats will then return home on Tuesday, July 17, when they take on the Brooklyn Cyclones, Minor League affiliate of the New York Mets.
