Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - Renegades starting pitcher Nick Padilla tossed six shutout innings as Hudson Valley defeated West Virginia 2-0 Friday night at Dutchess Stadium to take the rubber-game of the three-game series. The game was played in only 1:57.
Hudson Valley got on the board in the fourth inning as shortstop Tyler Frank led off with a double to left-center. He would move to third on a wild pitch before catcher Chris Betts lined a sacrifice fly to center to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead.
The Renegades got a much-needed insurance run in the seventh. With Betts at first and two away, rightfielder Jake Stone laced a double down the rightfield line to score Betts and up the Hudson Valley lead to 2-0.
Padilla finished the game allowing only two baserunners, on those two hits, in his six innings of work. The right-hander also struck out three in getting the win to move to 2-3 on the year. The tough-luck loser for West Virginia was their starter, Alexander Manasa (1-4), who gave up an earned run on three hits over six frames. Closer Simon Rosenblum-Larson (3) notched the save for the Renegades as he struck out the side in the ninth.
There were only seven hits in the game; five of them by Hudson Valley. Nobody for either squad had more than one hit.
Hudson Valley now heads to Mahoning Valley for the first game of a three-game series against the Scrappers tomorrow. First-pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Southpaw Blake Pflughaupt (1-1, 3.93 ERA) will be on the hill for the Renegades against right-hander Luis Oviedo (3-0, 0.32 ERA) of the Scrappers.
The Renegades return to Dutchess Stadium on Tuesday, July 17th when they begin a six-game homestand against the Connecticut Tigers beginning at 7:05. Tickets can be purchased online at hvrenegades.com or by calling the ticket office at 845-838-0094.
