Scrappers Commit Five Errors, Swept By Yankees

(Staten Island, NY)-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers committed five errors and fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and were never able to recover. The Scrappers dropped a 5-2 decision to the Staten Island Yankees on Friday night and with the loss were swept for the first time this season.

After falling behind 3-0 in the first, the Scrappers would rally to cut the deficit to just a single run in the top of the third inning. Ronny Dominguez started the inning with a single and stole second. Dominguez would come around to score on Tyler Freeman's RBI single. Freeman then moved to third on a two base wild pitch before scoring on a throwing error.

The Scrappers would get the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning but could not push any more runs across. On the series, the Scrappers stranded 21 runners on base.

Juan Mota (1-2) started and took the loss in 2.0 innings of work. Mota allowed 5 runs, 3 earned, on 6 hits. He struck out 4. Luis Valdez followed with 2.1 innings of work. Valdez allowed 1 hit and struck out 4 while walking 2. Randy Valladares went 2.2 innings in relief. He allowed 1 hit while walking 2 and striking out 4. Adoni Kery pitched the final inning in relief. He allowed a hit and struck out 1.

The Scrappers (16-10) now return home to open a three game series with the Hudson Valley Renegades in a battle of the two best records in the NYPL. Luis Oviedo gets the start.
