Reading Royals News Release

TOP NOTES OF THE WEEK

1. The Royals scored two third period power play goals to come from behind and tie Friday night's game in Johnstown, which ended in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Chiefs. This marked the third time this season that the Royals have trailed by two goals in a game and have come back to earn at least a point. In fact, in five of the six games in which the Royals have registered at least a point in the standings this season, the team has come from behind to do so. The only game that Reading has not trailed the opposition at any point of the game this year is the 6-2 win over the Idaho Steelheads on November 1.

2. Friday's shootout marked the first time this season (in three tries) that the Royals have lost a shootout-and the first time that the opposition has scored on a shootout attempt against a Royal goaltender. (On Saturday, Johnstown was 2-9 in the shootout.) The opposition is currently 2-19 against Reading goalies in the shoot- out, which is a 10.5% scoring ratio. The best shootout save percentage in Royals' history came in the 2006-07 season, when the opposition scored on 23.8% of their shootout shots (10-42). Royals shooters are currently 3 for 17 in the shootout, which is a 17.6% scoring. The best the Royals have ever done in the shootout was a 36.7% scoring ratio, which came last year-the worst ever for Reading was the 21.4% scoring ratio in 2006-07.

3. Shawn Snider scored the first goal of the game in Friday's 4-3 SOL in Johnstown. For Snider that was his team leading second 'first goal' of the year. Snider leads the Royals with thirteen points (5g-8a). The Royals have scored first in five of the sixteen games played this season and have compiled a 1-3-1 record in those games.

4. Luciano Aquino scored the second goal for Reading in Johnstown on Friday, while the Royals were on the power play at the 8:00 mark of the third period. This marked Aquino's first goal as a member of the Royals. He also picked up an assist on the third period game-tying goal by Kirk MacDonald on Friday to register his second con- secutive multi-point game (in his third game played). Defenseman Gerard Miller, playing in his first game for Reading last Friday, assisted on Aquino's goal.

5. On Friday, Kirk MacDonald scored the game tying goal with just 5:51 left in regulation, while Reading was on a the power play. This marked MacDonald's second goal in two games for the Royals, but his goal scoring streak was snapped against Elmira on Saturday. Twice this season, MacDonald has scored goals in back-to-back games.

6. Kevin Harvey assisted on the first goal of Friday's game in Johnstown scored by Shawn Snider. That extended Harvey's personal point streak to three games (1g-2a), which was snapped in Saturday's 5-1 loss to Elmira. On Friday, Harvey also engaged in a fight with Johnstown's Jason Spence at the 7:30 mark of the third period, which seemed to spark the late game two-goal comeback for the Royals. Harvey also engaged in his team leading seventh fight against Elmira's Guillaume Lepine in Saturday night's 5-1 loss to the Jackals. Harvey currently leads the league with 91 penalty minutes and is tied for second in fighting majors (7).

7. Entering into Friday's game in Johnstown, the Royals power play had scored only once on the road in twenty-seven chances (3.7% scoring ratio) with the man advantage through the first seven away games. In Friday's game, Reading notched two third period power play goals, going 2-7 with the man advantage. This marked the third time this season that the Royals have scored more than one power play goal in a game. Reading's only goal on Saturday against Elmira was a PPG (1-5). Over the course of the season, Reading has scored 12 PPG in 79 chances with the man advantage, which translates into a 15.2% scoring ratio (fourteenth in the league).

8. The Royals allowed three first period power play goals against in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Elmira Jackals. This marked the fourth time this season that the Royals PK has allowed three PPGA., and the seventh time that the opposition has had a multiple power play goal game against the Royals. The opposition has scored at least one power play goal against Reading in 14 of the 16 games played so far. Over the course of the season, the Royals have allowed 24 power play goals against in 109 chances for the opposition, which is a 78.0% kill ratio (23rd in the league).
