Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
Biloxi, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves went 1-2-0 this past week, defeat South Carolina 3-2 in a shootout on Friday before falling 5-2 at Gwinnett on Saturday and 10-0 at South Carolina on Sunday.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The Mississippi Sea Wolves squandered a two-goal lead in the third period but held tough through a scoreless overtime and pulled out the win in the shootout behind goals from Ryan Cruthers and Mathieu Melanson and four saves against four shooters from Ryan Munce.
The Sea Wolves opened up an early lead when Ryan Cruthers popped in his first of the night, finding a loose puck near the South Carolina crease and pounding it past Stingrays goaltender Bobby Goepfert at 3:34 of the first. South Carolina tied the game shortly thereafter when Johann Kroll's shot from the point was deflected off of a Sea Wolves defender and past Ryan Munce for a power play goal at 5:27.
Cruthers notched his second of the game at 9:37 of the second a fortuitous bounce left a distracted Goepfert staring at Cruthers as he finished up the work Jason Tejchma started with a wrist shot that bounced off the crossbar. Mathieu Melanson's wrist shot beat Goepfert through the five-hole at 9:37 of the second period to give the Sea Wolves a 3-1 lead.
Trent Campbell's second goal of the season drew the Stingrays within one at 1:52 of the third period, and then Maxime Lacroix hammered home a feed from Michael Dubuc to tie the gaem at 12:07 of the third period.
Ryan Munce weathered a storm early in the overtime as the Stingrays held a power play, but was able to stop all three shots he faced in the extra session.
Ryan Cruthers scored in the second round of the shootout and Mathieu Melanson scored in the fourth round to give the Sea Wolves the win as Munce stopped all four Stingrays shooters.
NOTEBOOK: Defenseman Michael Couch missed his fifth consecutive game with a lower-body injury... defenseman Chris Zarb did not travel with the team due to a lower-body injury and is expected to be sidelined for another 2-4 weeks... defenseman Justin Coutu is expected to return to practice next Tuesday... Friday's game was the first of five in nine days between the Sea Wolves and South Carolina.
Saturday, November 22 @ Gwinnett, 2-5 L
DULUTH, GA - Four second period goals including a pair by Matt Siddall doomed the Mississippi Sea Wolves as they fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators 5-2 on Saturday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Brad Schell gave the Gladiators a 1-0 lead just 12 seconds into the first period when he snuck behind the Sea Wolves defense and tucked a pass from Jordan Fox under Mississippi's Ryan Munce. The Sea Wolves evened the score at one-apiece when Mathieu Melanson poked the rebound of Mike Wirll's shot under the Gladiators' Josh Johnson 6:31 into the first period.
Gwinnett's Bruce Graham broke down the right side and fired a low shot past Munce on the glove side at 5:20 of the second period to give the Gladiators a 2-1 lead. At 14:22, Matt Siddall bounced a puck from behind the goal line off of Ryan Munce and into the net for his first goal of the game and a 3-1 Gwinnett lead at 14:22 of the second. Just two minutes and nine seconds later, Siddall blasted a one-timer off of a pass from Pat Bateman past Munce. The Gladiators extended the lead to four when Bateman broke down the left wing, beat his man to the outside, cut to the net and went to the backhand to beat Munce for a shorthand goal at 18:20.
Jason Tejchma potted his fifth goal of the year, going to the net to follow up a shot from Mathieu Melanson at 14:15 of the third, but the Gladiators lead was never threatened in the final frame.
Ryan Munce made 23 saves, taking the loss, and the Sea Wolves power play was 0-for-6.
NOTEBOOK: Michael Couch missed his sixth consecutive game with a lower-body injury... Defensemen Chris Zarb and Mike Nesdill also did not play with lower-body injuries... Justin Coutu remains sidelined with an upper-body injury.
Sunday, November 23 @ South Carolina, 0-10 L
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - Brad Farynuk's shorthand goal at 19:02 of the first period stood as the game-winner as the Mississippi Sea Wolves were never able to break the seal on the South Carolina net as they fell 10-0 to the Stingrays at the North Charleston Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
A shorthand goal in the last minute of the first period gave the Stingrays a 1-0 lead, as Paul Kelly broke down the ice three-on-one with Keith Johnson and Brad Farynuk and dished a pass to Farynuk that he rifled over Ryan Munce's glove for a shorthand goal at 19:02.
The floodgates opened for South Carolina when Travis Morin potted his third goal of the season at 3:11 five-on-five, and then Michael Scherer and Sasha Pokulok would add power-play goals at 4:15 and 9:59 respectively to chase Sea Wolves starter Ryan Munce from the net.
South Carolina wasted no time getting to Jeremy Duchesne, who replaced Munce at the 9:59 mark of the second period, as Maxime Lacroix potted a shorthand goal at 12:21, and then hammered redirected a point shot from Zach Tarkir past Duchesne on the power-play at 16:43.
Bad went to worse for the Sea Wolves in the third period, as Scherer notched his second of the game at 3:48 of the third, Morin potted his second of the contest at 8:35, giving the Stingrays an 8-0 lead. Scott Romfo notched South Carolina's third shorthand goal of the game at 10:08 of the third period, and Trent Campbell's third goal of the season gave South Carolina a 10-0 lead at 13:21 of the third.
Ryan Munce made 23 saves on 29 shots in 29:59 of action, taking the loss, while Jeremy Duchesne stopped 16-of-22 shots he faced in 30:01 of action. The Sea Wolves power play was 0-for-6.
NOTEBOOK: Michael Couch missed his seventh consecutive game with a lower-body injury... Defensemen Chris Zarb and Mike Nesdill also did not play with lower-body injuries... Justin Coutu remains sidelined with an upper-body injury... Chase Trull has appeared in three games and is -1 with Philadelphia of the American Hockey League since being called up last weekend.
