Wheeling Nailers News Release

READING, PA - Chris Blight scored twice to help lead the Reading Royals to a 3-1 victory over the Wheeling Nailers at the Sovereign Center Saturday night. Despite the loss, the Nailers maintain a six-point lead in the North Division.

After playing 65 minutes of scoreless hockey last night, it took nearly 14 minutes for the scoreless streak to be broken between the two clubs. Reading's Todd Perry stole the puck at the blue line, and fired a slapshot from the circle past Nailers goaltender Patrick Killeen to give the Royals a 1-0 lead at the end of one period.

The Nailers tied the game at 9:03 of the second period. Moments after exiting the penalty box for a cross-checking penalty, Nailers defenseman Alex Grant grabbed the puck at the circle and hurled a backhand shot through the five-hole of Royals goaltender Matt Dalton. The goal was the first of the season for Grant. The game remained tied at one after two periods.

Reading turned up the heat late in the third and eventually converted on a goal by Chris Blight who fired a wrist shot on the glove side past Killeen to give the Royals the 2-1 lead with 4:34 remaining. Wheeling rolled the dice and pulled Killeen for the extra attacker, but Blight would take the puck in the neutral zone and fire it into the empty net to seal the 3-1 victory. Reading outshot Wheeling 35-28 in the game.

The Nailers travel to Trenton tomorrow afternoon to take on the Devils. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. Tune into the Mix 97.3, or watch the game on RTV9. The next Nailers game in WesBanco Arena is Sunday February 27 at 6:05 p.m. There will be post game skate with the players. To purchase tickets call (304) 234-4625, or (304) 234-GOAL.
