
Road Warriors Slide by Stingrays in OT

Greenville, SC -The Greenville Road Warriors (32-19-1-1) pushed their South Division lead to four points over the South Carolina Stingrays (29-21-2-2) with a 4-3 overtime victory Saturday night at the Bi-Lo Center.
The Road Warriors grabbed the opening marker 3:55 into the first period when forward Shane Harper broke in on Stingrays goaltender Shane Owen and slipped a shot under the left pad for his 12 goal of the season. Harper's tally was unassisted. Stingrays forward Rob Ricci responded with his team-leading 20 marker of the year on a 5-on-3 power play at 5:32 from defenseman Derek Keller and forward Trent Campbell.
After a scoreless middle stanza, Campbell made it 2-1 Stingrays with a shorthanded goal at 6:13 of the third period from Ricci. The Road Warriors knotted it back up at 10:43 when defenseman Sam Klassen lifted a shot over the glove of Owen from the top of the right-wing circle. Forwards Connor Shields and Marc-Olivier Vallerand earned the assists. Moments later, forward Chris Clackson gave the Road Warriors a one-goal lead at 13:53 from Vallerand and Shields. With a 1:40 to play in regulation, Stingrays forward Tommy Goebel slipped a shot from the bottom of the right-wing circle inside the stick-side post of Road Warriors netminder Nic Riopel to send the contest to overtime. Forwards Jordan Pietrus and Campbell added the assists. Shields sealed the victory for the Road Warriors at 4:52 of the extra session from defenseman Brad Cole.
Owen suffered the loss stopping 25 of 29 Road Warriors shots. Riopel recorded his second straight victory knocking aside 21 of 24 Stingrays opportunities. The Stingrays finished the night 1-for-6 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-3.
The Stingrays and Road Warriors close their four-game series tomorrow, Sunday, February 20 at 4:00 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
