Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Bryan Ewing ["YOU ing"] to an ECHL contract. In separate transactions, forward Stefano Giliati and defenseman Joey Ryan have been recalled to the Marlies from Reading.

Ewing (5'10/188) (24), a second year pro who was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, and hails from Plymouth, Massachusetts, began this season with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, where he scored a goal and picked up an assist in nine games. In early November, Ewing was assigned to the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL, where he scored eight goals and assisted on thirteen others (twenty-one points) in twenty-six games. All eight of Ewing's goals with the Walleye came in his last eleven games with the team. He is currently riding a three game goal scoring streak. This week, Ewing was recalled by Rockford and released from his contract with that team. Last year, Ewing put together an epic rookie season with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. He led all first year pros in the league with forty-three goals and ninety-one points, which placed him second overall in league scoring. He was selected to the ECHL's All-Rookie Team, as well as the All-ECHL First Team. He topped off last season when he was honored with the John A. Daley Award, which is bestowed upon ECHL's Rookie of the Year. Prior to turning pro, Ewing had an outstanding four year collegiate career at Boston University, where he scored forty-eight goals and added sixty assists (108 points) in 143 total games.

The Royals return to action tomorrow night (Friday, January 15 @ 7:05 pm) when the Elmira Jackals visit the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. That night, the organization will induct former defenseman Reagan Rome into the Reading Eagle Wall of Honor. The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show at 6:35 pm.
