Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, lost to the Bakersfield Condors 2-1 in a shootout Wednesday evening before a crowd of 5,314 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Reign lost the lead when Bakersfield scored with 4:20 left in the third to tie up the game and force an overtime session. Neither team put the puck in the net during the five-minute. Eventually, it was Bakersfield's two goals in the shootout that gave them the win.
The first goal of the night came at 14:44 in the second period. Forward Michael Pelech passed the puck to right winger Tony Voce in front of the net. Voce then passed the puck to the left of the net to forward Greg Hogeboom who shot the puck past Condor's goalie Timo Pielmeier and put the Reign up 1-0.
In the third period, Bakersfield defenseman Mark Mitera tied the game at 1-1 on the power play with a wrist shot from the blue line that past Ontario's goalie Curtis Darling at 15:40. The overtime session didn't yield a game-winner for either club, but Bakersfield's two goals in the shootout did. The Reign came away from the match with one standings point, but Bakersfield added a win and two points with a final score of Condors 2, Reign 1 (SO).
