Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Royals pulled off their fourth one-run victory of their current homestand Sunday night - the second one in walk-off fashion - when Mike Moustakas' drive off the warning track in center field gave Omaha a 4-3 win over Tacoma in 12 innings. Not that it should have been that close, as the Royals left a season-high 19 runners stranded on base in a contest witnessed by 7,420 fans.

Moustakas' game-winning hit scored Marc Maddox, who drew a leadoff walk from Mumba Rivera (0-1), was bunted to second base and took third on David Lough's single off the glove of a diving David Winfree in right field. That brought up Moustakas, who had been 1-for-6 on the night and 3-for-23 on the homestand before coming through with the walk-off shot on Rivera's 2-2 delivery.

Matt Herges (5-3), who was activated from the disabled list shortly before the game, got the win. The veteran righty gave up two singles and a walk in the top of the 12th to load the bases with two outs, but retired Winfree on a grounder to Moustakas at third to escape the jam. The Rainiers only stranded five runners through the first ten innings, but left five more on base over the final two frames.

Jarrod Dyson and Lough paced the Royals' 14-hit attack with three hits apiece. Dyson laid down two of Omaha's three sacrifice bunts in the game.

The only home run of the night was smacked by Tacoma designated hitter Justin Smoak. His fourth round-tripper in 23 games with the Rainiers led off the sixth inning and tied the game at 3-all. It came off Royals starter Blaine Hardy, who gave up three runs (two earned) in his six innings.

Omaha's bullpen was brilliant, as Tim Collins, Louis Coleman and Herges combined to blank Tacoma over the final six innings, yielding only three hits.

The Royals evened their record in extra innings to 8-8, while the Rainiers fell to 4-7.

The crowd brought the Triple-A team's attendance so far this season to 307,105. It marks the 23rd consecutive season - starting in 1988 - that the club has drawn more than 300,000 fans to Rosenblatt.

Omaha (62-54) has won six of its last seven games, while Tacoma (61-54) has dropped five straight and ten of its past 12 tilts. Game two of the series is Monday at 7:05 p.m. Rainiers right-hander Blake Beavan (1-0, 3.00) faces Royals righty Anthony Lerew (5-3, 3.48).
