Early Lead Enough for Zephyrs

New Orleans scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, as the Zephyrs held off several Salt Lake rally attempts to beat the Bees 12-8 on Sunday afternoon. Down 5-1 in the sixth, the Bees scored twice as they strung together consecutive doubles by Mark Trumbo, Paul McAnulty and Hank Conger to get to within two, but New Orleans answered with four runs in the top of the seventh. Salt Lake acored four in the bottom of the seventh and one in the eighth to get back to within one, but the Zephyrs put the game away with three runs in the top of the ninth.

Ryan Vogelsong (0-2) started and took the loss, as he allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Terry Evans led the Bees with two hits and three runs batted in, while Trumbo added three hits and scored three runs. McAnulty and Michael Ryan each chipped in one hit and two RBI and Nick Gorneault and Kevin Frandsen each added a pair of hits.
