Royals Fall to Giants

Vancouver, BC- The Victoria Royals allowed three goals in the third period as they fell 4-1 to the Vancouver Giants on Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum.

The Giants' Alec Baer tallied two markers in the final frame to pace Vancouver's offence. Carter Popoff registered the Giants' other goal in the third period, while Ty Ronning opened the scoring in the second stanza. The Royals' lone tally was notched by Jack Walker on the powerplay.

Victoria started goaltender Coleman Vollrath who stopped 31 of the 35 shots he faced on the night. With the appearance, Vollrath tied former Chilliwack Bruin Lucas Gore for the most games played by a goaltender in franchise history at 141.

Vancouver netminder Ryan Kubic turned aside 26 of 27 pucks directed his way.

The Royals went 1/333.3% on the powerplay. The Giants meanwhile had a 2/366.7% mark on the man-advantage.

Victoria returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre tomorrow and Sunday to continue their weekend series against the Giants. Saturday's contest is the Royals' annual Teddy Bear Toss game and is slated for 7:05 p.m. Sunday will see Victoria in a matinee match-up beginning at 3:05 p.m. with a skate with the Royals taking place after the game.
