Vancouver, B.C. - Alec Baer scored twice in the last five minutes of the third period to help lift the Vancouver Giants to a 4-1 victory over the Victoria Royals on Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum. The G-Men also got goals from Ty Ronning and Carter Popoff on Ugly Christmas Sweater Night.

The Giants surrendered an early power play to the Royals, but Ryan Kubic made two great saves on Tyler Soy and Jack Walker, keeping the game scoreless early in the period.

Ronning opened the scoring for the Giants two minutes into the middle stanza, beating Victoria goalie Coleman Vollrath on the 2-on-1 rush. It was Ronning's team leading 19th goal of the season. The Royals evened the score late in the period with a power play marker off the stick of Jack Walker.

The G-Men cashed in on the power play just over the halfway through the third period with a goal from Popoff, and in the late stages, Baer scored two goals less than three minutes apart, potting his seventh and eighth goals of the year. Ryan Kubic made 25 saves in the win.

The Giants and Royals will go head-to-head again on Vancouver Island on Saturday night. Puck drop is at 7:05pm.

Vancouver's next home game is also against the Royals on Wednesday, December 16th. Face-off is at 7:00pm. For tickets, go to TicketLeader.ca or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
