Nogier with a Late Goal; Rebels Win 2-1 over Tigers

December 12, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Red Deer Rebels News Release

Two nights after picking up a 4-3 win in Medicine Hat, the Rebels welcomed the Tigers to the Enmax Centrium for their fifth head-to-head matchup this season. The Rebels led the season series 4-0 coming into this game.

FIRST PERIOD

Surprisingly, Ivan Nikolishin was not invited to World Junior selection camp by his home country. Russia's loss is the Rebels gain as the team's leading scorer opened the scoring in this game with his 18th goal of the year 14:50 into the game. Colton Bobyk and Nelson Nogier assisted on the 1-0 marker. The goal brought down a shower of thousands of toques, scarves and mitts on "Toque Toss Night" in support of the Red Deer Christmas Bureau.

SECOND PERIOD

Neither team was able to break through for goal in the middle frame thanks in large part to some great saves both Rylan Toth and Nick Schneider.

THIRD PERIOD

Medicine Hat kept the game close and would pull even on a late third period 5-on-3 powerplay. Max Gerlach went top shelf from in tight for his team leading 15th goal of the season. This game was tied 1-1 with 4:33 to go.

Nelson Nogier picked a great time to score his first goal of the year. The Winnipeg Jets draft pick Red Deer ahead 2-1, scoring with a bullet shot with 50.1 seconds left to go. Lane Pederson and Conner Bleackley assisted on what would end up being the game winning goal. Red Deer came through with a hard fought 2-1 victory.
