Medicine Hat, AB- The Victoria Royals registered the game's opening two markers in a contest they controlled from start to finish to down the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-1 on Tuesday night.
The Royals flew out of the gate in the opening frame as the club outshot their opponents 16-8, with Dante Hannoun recording the period's lone goal on the powerplay. Victoria's Blake Bargar added to the lead when he registered the game winning marker in the middle stanza. The Royals received goals from Matthew Phillips, Tyler Soy, and Jared Dmytriw, into an empty net, in the third period. The Tigers' lone tally was scored by Mark Rassell in the second stanza.
Both goalies were busy throughout the contest as the two teams combined for 82 shots. Royals' netminder Griffen Outhouse stopped 40 of the 41 shots he faced, including all 19 in the third period, and was the contest's second star. Tigers' goaltender Nick Schneider was the game's third star as he turned aside 36 of the 40 pucks directed his way.
Victoria went 1/425.0% on the powerplay, while Medicine Hat held a mark of 1/616.7% on the man-advantage.
The Royals continue their road trip tomorrow night as they face the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the ENMAX Centre. The Royals will wrap up their trip on Friday, October 14th vs. the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place. Puck drop for both contests are at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).
