Kubic Shuts out Oil Kings

Edmonton, AB - Ryan Kubic made 28 saves for his first shutout of the season, and the Vancouver Giants blanked the Edmonton Oil Kings 2-0 on Tuesday night at Rogers Place. Radovan Bondra scored the game winner for the Giants while Tyler Benson added an empty netter.

G-Men were out shot 13-2 in the first period, but Kubic stood strong to keep the game scoreless. Thomas Foster had Vancouver's best chance of the second period, but he was stopped on a hard shot from the slot by Edmonton goalie Liam Hughes.

Bondra put Vancouver on the board just before the midway mark of the third period, scoring on a one-timer after Alec Baer forced a turnover in the Edmonton zone and fed the puck to him in the middle of the ice. Benson clinched the win on a late power play, scoring an empty net goal with under 10 seconds remaining.

Vancouver went 1-for-3 on the man advantage while Edmonton was 0-for-3 on its power play. The Oil Kings out shot the Giants 28-20.

The Giants play next on Friday when they visit the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The face-off goes at 6:00pm from the Enmax Centre.
