Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - Victoria will play at Vancouver on Friday before returning home Saturday night.
Fresh off a Family Day win the Victoria Royals will look for more this weekend as they wrap up their season series against the Vancouver Giants.
Friday's game will mark the third meeting between the division rivals in the past seven days, with Victoria taking the first two contests, 5-2 on Feb. 18 and 3-0 on Feb. 21.
Saturday's game at home will include a 'Hockey For All' theme presented by realtor Charlsey Macgregor promoting diversity and inclusivity. The night will also feature an appearance from Olympic gold medallist and Canadian National Women's Hockey Team member, Micah Zandee-Hart. The native of Victoria, BC, will be honoured during the game.
The Royals also hold the overall lead in the season series against Vancouver, posting eight wins versus just two losses to the Giants in 2021-2022.
Despite their success against Vancouver, Victoria remains locked in a battle with the Tri-City Americans for the eighth and final playoff spot with a 14-30-4-1 overall record and 33 points on the season. A pair of wins this weekend would go a long way to taking sole possession of that spot.
Team captain Tarun Fizer is primed for another big weekend, after posting four points in two games last week, and 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in his last six games since returning from injury earlier this month.
Forward Bailey Peach has also been in fine form lately, riding a 10-game point streak that's seen him register four goals and eight assists for 12 total points. The 20-year-old Nova Scotian has played some of his best hockey against Vancouver this year, putting up 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 10 contests this season.
Goaltending has been another strength of the Royals this past week, with the duo of Campbell Arnold and Tyler Palmer allowing just five goals over their past three games, and with Palmer recording his second shutout of the season on Monday in a 3-0 win over the Giants.
Vancouver has some quality goaltending of their own in the 19-year-old Jesper Vikman, who holds a 16-14-2 record with a 3.15 goals against average and a .902 save percentage on the season.
Victoria will have the added challenge of trying to stop forward Fabian Lysell. The speedy Swede leads all Giants skaters with 38 points (17 goals, 21 assists), recording eight of those (four goals, four assists) in five contests against the Royals this year.
Vancouver currently sits in seventh place in the conference with a 19-25-2-0 record and 40 total points.
The first game of the weekend will get underway at 7:30 pm at the Langley Events Centre. The teams will then board the ferry the following day for a matchup at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in downtown Victoria, where puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
