Goats heads home
There will surely be a few butterflies in the stomach of Winterhawks netminder Taylor Gauthier, who will be playing in Prince George as an opponent for the first time in his five-year junior career. But if his first game against his old club in Portland was any indicator, Gauthier has no intentions of giving his old buddies an easy time. Look for the always-professional Gauthier to put in a solid shift in PG.
Conversely, Hawks players get to say "Hej!" to former teammate Jonas Brøndberg, who went the other way in the deal that brought Gauthier to Portland. The Danish defenseman was a mainstay on the Hawks' blue line since 2019, but has done well with four points and a +3 rating in 16 outings with the Cougars.
Klassen plays 100
A milestone evening awaits for forward Gabe Klassen, who is expected to suit up for his 100th game tonight! Originally selected in the first round, #19 overall of the 2018 WHL Draft, Klassen is currently playing his third season with the Hawks and boasts 70 points through his first 99 games.
While we're talking milestones, keep an eye on Tyson Kozak this weekend - Portland's co-captain sits just three points shy of 100 in his career!
The true north
This weekend's trip marks Portland's first visit north of the border since early January, when a three-game road trip became one as games against Kamloops and Vancouver were postponed at the time. With those games now rescheduled for early April, what was the team's penultimate visit to Canada has now become one of three left in the regular season.
Portland will want to shake off some tough luck in Canada on this trip - the team is 2-2-0-0 in road games against B.C. Division opponents, but both wins came over the Kelowna Rockets. The Hawks will look to make that three victories as they kick things off in Prince George this evening.
