Warriors Rested Heading into Friday Showdown with Broncos

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

It's been almost a month since the Moose Jaw Warriors haven't played a midweek game.

After playing 19 games over the past 37 days, the Warriors took full advantage of their week off from game action.

"We've paid the price early on with a tougher schedule and the guys have done great, it's a lot of hockey," Warriors head coach Mark O'Leary said.

Warriors forward Ryder Korczak said the break from game action was welcomed by the players.

"It feels nice," he said. "Just regroup with the guys, did a bit of pep, a bit of fun stuff and back to work for this upcoming big weekend."

With 12 wins in their 14 games, the Warriors are pleased with where their game is at right now, but O'Leary said the focus this week was on fine tuning and keeping the atmosphere loose.

"We started with a bit of skills work early on in the week, then some small area games, some battle, a little bit of fun and then back to our structure," he said.

"We don't need to change a lot in terms of what we work on, it's just getting to our DNA, or identity, as quick as we can."

Now the Warriors turn their focus to the Swift Current Broncos, who come to Mosaic Place on Friday night.

The Warriors are coming off a hard fought 4-2 win in Prince Albert last Saturday.

O'Leary said he likes how the team has handled some tough tests in recent games.

"The games are getting tighter, harder checking and we've done exactly that, we're a little bit tighter on our checks, we're getting pucks back fast and at the end of the day, that's what it's going to be like in playoffs, so it's good to start now," he said.

Going up against the Broncos on Friday and then the Saskatoon Blades on Sunday, the Warriors are focused on playing a physical game.

"We're pretty confident where we stand," Korczak said.

"We need to play fast, Swift Current is a small team, so we can get our big guys to lay some body and we'll be successful."

The Warriors and Broncos face-off at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Mosaic Place. Tickets are available at mjwarriors.ca
